Okay I know this rp hasn't had a post in like, months and is probably legit dead but I'VE SEEN OTHER GUESTS LURKING and I am going to take a chance, and see if maybe, somehow, by the power of greyskull and in the name of the moon, it can be revived. Also this character is begging for usage, real badly.
Name: Neralya "Nera" Ral'serah (Last name taken from Batarian surrogate father, doesn't know actual last name.)
Race: Turian
Class: Vanguard by technicality, I suppose
Occupation: Freelance Mercenary
Biotics: Has them, but they're rather shoddy for several reasons, so she avoids using them. If she DOES use them, it's when she's in a pinch, or for something minor like pulling someone's feet from under them, or pinning them down briefly. Anything more major than that tends to lead to physical symptoms like nosebleeds, headaches, and nausea, and are unreliable at best.
Age: 20-ish. She isn't entirely sure.
Height/Weight/Bodytype: 5'9", slightly on the short and scrawny side for a turian due to poor diet
General Appearance: Pictured here, though it should be mentioned since I'm dumb and put shades on her, she has heterochromia- her right eye is olive green in coloration, with her left eye being kind of amber brown-ish.
Personality: Neralya is jovial, easy-going, charming, and above all, very, very self-centered. Almost all of her actions are for her benefit and hers alone, and she cares very little, if at all, how they affect anyone else. Needless to say, this makes her morally questionable at best. She has little qualms with lying, cheating, stealing and other unsavory acts to get what she wants, and contrary to the turian stereotype, honor means pretty much nothing to her. That said, she's not a psycho, and there are lines that she refuses to cross. Sometimes, she even has moments where she's a pretty decent gal. It's just that those moments are very few and far between.
Normally Carries:
-Her handy dandy shotgun, originally of the Armagedon variety but heavily customized, worn but well-cared for. Used with all kinds of horrific ammo, usually of the inferno variety. She likes fire.
-Her omni-tool, slightly outdated but also heavily customized. Though it's an older model, it's proven to still be very reliable, and, thanks to the customizations, creates some rather beastly shields.
-Personal effects, space necessities, space toiletries
-An awesome set of SPACE SHADES...which she typically wears when hungover. Which is fairly often.
-Some form of smokes, usually cigarettes, though she prefers cigars
Quirks: Despite her unusual background, Neralya is surprisingly knowledgable. In fact, reading has always been a favorite hobby of hers and was actually part of her very informal education as a child. Unfortunately, as one can expect, this means her education wasn't quite complete, and sometimes Neralya can be completely ignorant in matters that would be common knowledge to other people. Due to the embarassment this has caused in the past, Neralya tends to avoid more intellectual conversation, keeping both her actual intelligence and her love of reading a secret. Neralya has a lot of secrets, turns out, one of them being her speech impediment she had as a child. The one she never entirely got rid of, just hides very well, and still has the potential to manifest itself if she gets overly emotional. Add that to her habit of snorting when she laughs too hard, and it's easy to see why her general attitude is very chill and hard to rouse.
Motivation: Any action she takes will ultimately be to benefit herself. Though beyond the now, she really isn't sure what she wants, and her goals and desires tend to be fickle and constantly changing. She thinks she might want a ship of her own, only she doesn't want the responsibility that comes with it, and she damn well doesn't want to be in charge of anyone. For now, credits seems to be a worthy enough motivation.
Personal History: Raised by pirates from a very young age, Neralya has no idea where she originally came from or who her real parents were... but for the most part, she really doesn't care. As far as she's concerned, she had a pretty good upbringing, even if it was a bit... off-kilter.
Basically, Neralya was found when a pirate gang raided the ship her and her parents were on, and ended up killing everyone in the process when they refused cooperation... except Neralya herself, who had been tucked away and asleep the whole time. The pirate crew only discovered her when they were about to head back to their own ship, and since none of them were willing to shoot a small child, they turned to their captain, Narrok Ral'serah, to see what they should do with her. Luckily for the very small turian girl, it was ultimately decided not only to spare her, but to take her with them, since even with them being pirates, it was also deemed too cruel to let her rot aboard the lifeless ship. Of course, they planned to drop her off at the nearest space station afterwards. Only, that never happened.
What happened instead was that, for whatever reason, this pirate crew kept her around, and gradually became Neralya's very odd, very dysfunctional family. For the next decade or so, they did their best to raise her... and they did alright, considering the circumstances and what they were. Of course, it wasn't simply them taking care of her out of the good of their hearts, no, no, she had to earn her keep as well, in whatever way she could. Since the turian was very young, they started with simple things- cleaning up, fetching things, holding cigarettes while peoples' fingers were broken... you know, kid stuff. Gradually, they added different things to the list. For example, at one point- still early on- they often used Nera for scams, either using her to ploy some poor sucker into taking sympathy and letting his guard down, or more commonly, using her as a pretend-hostage whenever the crew was harassed by any form of law enforcement. Again, using peoples' sympathies against them. While this is obviously a really horrible thing to do to a kid, at the time Neralya thought nothing of it. To her, this was completely normal, and sometimes, it was actually fun, even. Like some sort of twisted little game.
Eventually, though, Neralya got a little too old for certain roles, or got fed up with certain roles and as such, was given new roles, roles of an adult(Though she was only about 12 or so. Pirates: Not the best parents!), which involved a lot more danger and a lot more bullets. It would have involved a lot more biotics, too, considering Neralya is and was a biotic herself -another one of the reasons the crew kept her around- but due to a doctor doing a somewhat shoddy job of putting in her implants, her biotics became very limited, and actually caused some complications for her that still sometimes plague her to this day. Since Neralya had, at this point, pretty much become the crew's little princess, the doctor did not live to perform another surgery, and it was then decided that Nera should hone her skills with guns instead. So, she did, and she grew to be fairly good at it.
Things were pretty good for Neralya the next several years, barring the occasional awkward or unpleasant event here and there, and she fully enjoyed the life she had. Sadly for her, it wasn't meant to last. When Neralya was about 16 or so, her crew decided to raid a ship that they ultimately shouldn't have- the ship turned out to be very well-armed and well-manned, and the gang had clearly bitten off more than they could chew. Things were going very badly for Nera's family. Most of the men were dead, and it was clear that the ship- their ship- wasn't going to make it. Realizing that things were going to crap, Narrok, who had basically become Neralya's father at this point, singled out Neralya, and, feeling he was obligated to do so, told the turian of her parents's fate, how she had actually come under his care, and why he had avoided telling her about it.
Neralya, being the teenager she was, and like most people, not fond of being lied to or finding out that their surrogate family killed their real one, did not take the news well, and, letting her anger get the better of her, gave her batarian foster-father a few very nasty choice words before leaving in an escape pod, alone. The ship was destroyed afterwards, and while she's glad she's still alive, her decision still plagues her to this day despite herself.
In another strike of luck, soon afterwards Neralya was able to hitch a ride on a passing ship, and eventually made her way to Omega, where she started her life anew... though no more crime-free than it had been previously. Using her past experiences, Nera schemed and scammed herself a living on the crappy space rock, got herself a small apartment, and eventually started freelancing as a merc, which she is still doing currently.
